The contest announcement was distributed to design programs in August 2007, and covered three target areas for the 2007-2008 competition. See also the contest rules (pdf file).

The design reports for the 2007-2008 competition, as provided by each team through web pages, can be viewed for each of the three categories:
- Accessible Weight Scale for Seated Users
- Accessible Pill Cap Dispensing/Cutting Device
- Accessible Incontinence Control Device
Ten judges from government, industry and academia participated in the competition, with three to four judges evaluating each entry. As for the past 3 years, the judging was coordinated by Donald Marlowe of the FDA. Each team received up to $2000 in reimbursement for design costs. First prize: $1000, Second prize: $750, Third prize: $500. The results of the judging process are as follows:
