Use of MVTA

 

For video-based task analysis, we make extensive use of the MVTA (Multimedia Video Task Analysis), which was developed by Drs. Robert Radwin and Tom Yen at the University of Wisconsin-Madison through the Occupational Ergonomics and Biomechanics Lab.

This package is commercially available through the Nexgen Ergonomics page on MVTA.

We selected this ergonomics package after evaluating a range of other video-based editing packages because of its ability to integrate video, audio and sensor-based measurements while supporting interactive event detection for task breakdown and analysis.

While each of the 5 current IRB-approved studies using MVTA as part of MU-Lab have different purposes, we have come up with a "common core" of event categories that relate to biomechanical, sensory, cognitive and safety considerations, as seen in the figure below.
