RERC-AMI Technical Reports, Reviews & Resources

Reports of the RERC-AMI

Reports of the RERC-AMI are a natural consequence of RERC activities, and will start becoming available during Year 3 of the RERC, in 2005. This is in addition to our list of publications. The following series of reports are available, or will soon become available:

Student Technical Reports on Classes of Medical Products (associated with the Accessibility and Usability Medical Instrumentatation Lab of Marquette University)

Accessible Healthcare Series developed by the Center for Disability Issues in the Health Professions at Western University

Literature Resources and Technical Reports hosted by the R2D2 Center of UW-Milwaukee

Student Technical Reports on Classes of Medical Products

In anticipation of possible areas of focus for the R2/Usability Analyses and the D2.2/Student Design Competition, during the Summers of 2003 and 2004 a number of students at Marquette conducted product searches as their secondary RERC project, in the form of preliminary technical reports. For 2003, the strategic areas were:

  • Examination Tables and Beds (Laura Johnson and Melissa Lemke)
  • Positioning and Controls for Imaging Technologies: Mammography, CT scans, MRI, X-ray (Melissa Lemke)
  • Dental Technologies (Matthew Wimmer)
  • Medical Monitoring Interfaces (Mark Mundschau)
  • Universal Access - Speech (Xin “ Tyre ” Feng)
  • Access to Videoconferencing Technologies (Jason Foil)
  • Weight Training Exercise Equipment (Laura Johnson)
  • Exercise Training/Stress Testing – Spirometers (Michael Poellmann)

Each of these consisted of a product table and a report. Based on internal discussions and input during the Advisory Board meetings in July 2003 and March 2004, a decision was make to expand and structure this type of product-oriented technical report. During the Summer 2004 the following reports were developed:

  • Exam Chairs, (R2): Melissa Lemke (with Christie McDonald)
  • Exam Tables and Beds (D1/R2): Melissa Lemke (with Christie McDonald)
  • Imaging Technologies (R2): Melissa Lemke (with Molly Follette Story)
  • Teleconferencing Interfaces (D3): Jason Foil
  • Home-Based Cardiopulmonary Exercise (D1/D3): Lora Miekcarek
  • Medical Monitoring Controls/Displays (D3): Matthew Schaning

The tables associated with these reports are now being stored in a single database (with 128 columns), and the reports and selected tables will become available during 2005.
